Free resit classes for students who failed maths, English
THE Ministry of Education announced Thursday that as of October this year, students who failed CSEC maths and English language will have the opportunity to attend resit classes, free of cost to them, in what it is calling support centres to be established in each parish.
The classes, according to the minister of education who made the announcement at the ministry’s head office, will be specifically for students who received grade four in the exams. They will be prepared to resit the exams in January.
“Each centre will receive support from three to four teachers, depending on the demand,” Education Minister Ronald Thwaites said, adding that they will be remunerated in the form of a stipend.
They will be selectively drawn from the public system, the National Mathematics and Literacy teams, and the cadre of retired teachers.
The minister said regional directors will work closely with principals in their region to identify and refer students to the centres for registration and access to the schedule of classes.
