Tropical storm watch issued for Leeward Islands
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — A tropical storm watch has been issued for the Leeward Islands
The Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that Tropical Storm Erika, with winds of 45 miles per hour (mph), was about 840 miles east of the Leeward Islands.
It said tropical storm watches have been issued for Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts & Nevis, Anguilla, Saba, and St Eustatius.
At 5:00 yesterday morning, the centre of Tropical Storm Erika was located near latitude 14.6 north, longitude 49.4 west.
“Erika is moving toward the west near 20 mph and a westward to west-northwestward motion with a slight decrease in forward speed are expected during the next 48 hours. On the forecast track, the centre of Erika will approach the Leeward Islands tonight and early tomorrow,” the NHC said.
It said maximum sustained winds were near 45 mph with higher gusts.
