Used-car dealers face fraud charges
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Two used car dealers were yesterday arrested and charged for the offence of fraudulent conversion by members of the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC).
They are 39-year-old Mark Robinson of Carlton Avenue and Natalie Billings, 41, of West Oakridge, both in Kingston 8.
Reports from the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that in August, 2013, the complainant entrusted an automobile company, located in the Kingston 8 area and owned by Robinson and Billings, with a Honda motor car to be sold on his behalf.
The motor vehicle was sold for J$2.7 million and it is alleged that the purchaser paid the full amount to the company. However, the complainant has only received J$1,880,000.
The CCU said the complainant has not been paid the outstanding amount of J$820,000 that subsequently led to him making a report to the Fraud Squad in February, 2015.
Robinson and Billings were bailed with a surety in the sum J$200,000 each, and are scheduled to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.
