Bog Walk to blaze
THE Drivers Rallysport Club (DRC) will host its second sprint event for the year this Sunday at Bybrook in Bog Walk, St Catherine, to start at 11:00 am. The event will also see the prizes for the third Dexterity handed out upon its conclusion.
“We will be running the course in its usual anti-clockwise form, meaning the cars come up the hill,” Warren Lamey, the event’s Clark of Course, told Auto.
The sprint had suffered from a lack of competitor interest over the past three weeks according to the DRC, which led to a postponement e-mail earlier in the week., However it was rescinded when two high profile drivers, Kyle and Gary Gregg, announced their potential participation, reinvigorating the event. Kyle, will be using his refreshed Lancer Evolution IX and his father Gary, is scheduled to drive the KIG Subaru Impreza WRX STI, now repaired from its problem at the Frome Rally, Westmoreland, in July.
“He should give me a run,” Kyle said acknowledging his father’s multitude of rally championships.
At the Frome Rally, Kyle managed to get the better of two of the big names in the sport, Jeffrey Panton, and Doug Gore. On Sunday, he faces a father/son confrontation on the level of the fictional battle in the Star Wars movie trilogy between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Hoping to upset them both is Joel Jackson.
“We’re still working on repairing the new car we bought earlier in the year and used in Rally Trinidad, so I’ll be competing in my old Impreza WRX STI should it come to that,” Jackson said.
Looking to add more points to his Rallysport championship, Maurice Whittingham hopes to defend his DRC title.
