Cavalier toast of KSAFA Under-17 awards
ALEX Marshall, the joint leading goalscorer in the recently concluded Tastee/KSAFA Under-17 football competition for champions Cavalier SC, was also voted Most Valuable Player at the prize-giving ceremony at Tastee head office on Half-Way-Tree Road last week Thursday.
Cavalier defeated Waterhouse FC 2-0 in the final.
Marshall, who attends St George’s College and will enter fifth form come September, scored 10 goals to share the honour with Dujohn Cobhan of Boys’ Town.
Apart from winning the tournament and Marshall pocketing two awards, Cavalier also took two other awards — Coach of The Year (Lamar Morgan) and Manager of The Year (Omar Stanley). Marcel Gayle, of Waterhouse FC, took home the runner-up coach’s award, while his clubmate Errol Mykoo copped the runner-up manager honour.
The Fairplay award went to Bull Bay, while the Referees awards went to Wilverglen Lamey, Khnordo Johnson, Harvill Harris and Richard Mitchell.
KSAFA president Ambassador AB Stewart Stephenson praised the way the ongoing age-group tournaments are being conducted.
“During the 12-week period in which the tournament lasted we were entertained by the 28 clubs that paraded up to 800 players weekly with most of the teams playing quality, attacking and open football. This is a good sign from a developmental perspective and should provide opportunities for young talents to enjoy themselves and hone their skills,” he observed.
Tastee public and marketing manager, Jamal Tugman, said his company has seen enough of the quality of competition to continue its support.
“Tastee Limited is therefore proud to partner again with the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association on another staging of the Under-17 football competition.
“This is our third year of sponsorship and is testimony to our commitment to youth development and sports as a vehicle for change,” he said.
