St Catherine woman fined J$1.5m for cocaine
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A woman was fined J$1.5 million when she appeared in the May Pen Resident’s Magistrate Court on Thursday, after she pleaded guilty to possession of and dealing in cocaine.
She is Dian Williams, a businesswoman of a St Catherine address.
Reports are that on March 19, 2015 about 6:45pm, Williams was driving a 2007 Black Toyota Prado along the Mineral Heights main road in Clarendon when she was signalled to stop by police officers from the Narcotics Division during an operation. She complied and during a search of the vehicle, one package containing one kilogram of cocaine was found in the vehicle.
Following further investigations, Williams was charged. She appeared before the May Pen RM Court where she pleaded guilty. She was fined $500,000.00 or six months in prison for possession of cocaine and $1,000,000 or six months for dealing in cocaine.
Williams is also scheduled to appear before the Supreme Court on September 15 for a benefit hearing in relation to breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act pertaining to the same matter.
