Man allegedly killed by machete-wielding neighbour
MANCHESTER, Jamaica – The Manchester police are investigating the killing of a 41-year-old man allegedly by a machete-wielding neighbour in May Day, two miles from the centre of Mandeville in central Manchester, late Saturday.
Police reports are that the deceased, Leo Hanlon, an unemployed man of Marshall’s Pen in May Day, was at home sometime after 7:00 pm when his neighbour jumped over the fence and chopped him to death with a machete.
The accused, whose name has been withheld pending formal charges, is alleged to have then packed a bag and fled the community on foot.
The police eventually caught up with the accused in neighbouring Royal Flat and took him into custody.
Investigators are theorising that the accused had a mental breakdown since residents said they had no knowledge of any bad feeling or quarrels involving himself and the victim.
Police say the accused will be formally charged in short order.
