Jamaica’s election boss leads Caricom observer team for T&T polls
JAMAICA’S direction of elections Orrett Fisher is to lead a Caribbean Community (Caricom) delegation that will observe parliamentary elections in Trinidad on Monday.
He leaves the island tomorrow.
After the election the delegation will issue a report to the secretary general of Caricom, indicating its finding on the election and make recommendations on what could be done to improve the system.
The secretary general is then expected to share the report with heads of governments and the leader of the country in which the election was conducted.
“The members on the team, including myself, need to learn whatever we can from that election, whether it is something positive we need to do or something we need to avoid. It’s always a learning experience as well,” Fisher told the Jamaica Observer.
The two main parties contesting the elections are Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s People’s Partnership coalition and the main Opposition People’s National Movement (PNM).
Jack Warner’s Independent Liberal Party is one of the minor parties contesting the polls.
