Jah Jah, the Master of Melody
SINGER Jahmai ‘Jah Jah’ Smith recently launched his EP, Master of Melody, at Triple Century Sports Bar in New Kingston, recently.
Smith, whose father is renowned session guitarist and producer Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, played an active role in its production.
“I produced, mixed and mastered the EP. Master of Melody is from the acronym M.O.M. It’s a tribute to my mother who is really the true master of melody from this talented family of singers,” said Smith.
The tracks on Master of Melody are Hardcore Lovin (featuring deejay Dolli Difference), Mistress Chameleon, Walk By, Earned it, You and I and Oh Love.
Walk By is the lead single.
“The EP is really an inspiration of what the fans wanted to hear from me being a singer in the group Jah Jah & Ashea. So, after so many requests I decided to record it,” Smith said.
Last year, 27-year-old Smith and his brother Ashea, a deejay, won the Portmore Dancehall Award for Best New Dancehall Act. They also released the album Young Star.
Smith credits his father for, “giving us a firm musical footing to continue the rich legacy producing quality music”.
In addition to his vocal career, Smith is an engineer at the Portmore radio station, Suncity 104.9 FM.
