Teejay banking on True Friends
MONTEGO BAY-BASED recording artiste Teejay is hoping to get his musical break via his single True Friends.
Released in July by Starz Plus Records, the singjay said the single explores the real attributes of friendship.
“It’s more of a personal experience that I am sure others can relate to. It’s about the friends who stick around when nothing is going on and the fake ones who come around when money a run and things are up,” he said.
The singjay said he is hoping the single will help him to get recognition while broadening his fan base.
“It is not going to be easy as I still have a lot of work to put in. Currently, my team and I are promoting the single as hard as we can. The west end of Jamaica has taken on to it, so we are aiming at wider Jamaica, the region and the rest of the world,” Teejay said.
A past student of St James High School, Teejay emerged on the dancehall scene in 2009 with the single Starlight.
“My family loved music so dancehall/reggae music was always playing in my household. A few of my family started a career in music, but sadly they passed away, so I decided to pick up where they left off,” he said.
Born and raised in the tough community of Glendevon in St James, the 21-year-old said he hopes to add value to his life through music.
“I will continue to put in the hard work as I don’t want to be another ‘artiste’ from the ghetto. I want to inspire others through my songs. I hope to create a better life for my family so now I am just educating myself about the business,” he said.
Teejay is also the voice behind Run to Me, They Don’t Know, Buss Head, and Real Hot.
