No evidence that Lynden Barrett was killed by cops – INDECOM
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) says it has completed investigations into the fatal shooting of Constable Lynden Barrett and has found no evidence that he was killed by a colleague.
The investigative body began their probe due to allegations that Barrett was shot dead in Denham Town, Kingston on July 21 by a police officer.
INDECOM said in a release today that the ballistic report received from the Government Forensic Laboratory on August 19 concerning this incident was inconclusive for the purpose of the enquiry.
An independent ballistic expert did a re-examination and confirmed the findings of the Government expert, the release said.
The commission noted that it did not collect any eye witness evidence to support the allegation that a police officer was responsible for Barrett’s death.
To that end, the commission said it has recommended that: the investigation is closed unless or until any new material becomes available; evidence generated by the commission’s investigation be forwarded to the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
