Clarendon farmer accused of sex trafficking 13-year-old
A Clarendon farmer was last week brought before the Corporate Are Resident Magistrate on allegations that he abducted a 13-year-old girl from Kingston and took her to three parishes to perform sexual acts in clubs.
The 36-year-old man, who is also accused of sexually assaulting the teen who was reportedly in his custody for five days, was denied bail when he appeared in court on Friday before Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey and remanded for psychiatric evaluation after the court was told that he was suicidal.
The accused, who was initially charged with carnal abuse, was also slapped with additional charges — two counts of procuring a person by administering drugs; two counts of grievous sexual assault; two counts of human trafficking; three counts of living off the earnings of prostitution; and procuring violation of person by administering drugs — when he made his second appearance in court.
According to allegations, in January this year the accused abducted the minor from a bus park in downtown Kingston and took her to his home in Clarendon where he sexually assaulted her.
It is also alleged that the man took the complainant to Old Harabour in St Catherine and to St Ann to perform sexual intercourse in clubs.
On Friday, the accused man’s lawyer, Denise Hinson, during her bail application, denied the allegations while pointing out that the charge relating to living off the earnings of prostitution was wrongfully laid against her client, as the complainant had pointed out in her statement that she did not give any money to the accused man.
However, the magistrate denied the accused bail after the prosecution informed the court that the accused man’s job was to solicit girls to perform sex in different clubs.
RM Pusey told the accused that she could not grant him bail, as he was a “dangerous man”.
He was remanded until November.
