Western Ja retailers, shoppers ready as Jamaica Observer Takes Style Out

Great bargains today await shoppers in western Jamaica from stores participating in Observer’s yearly Takes Style Out (TSO) event.

One of the participants, Lloyd’s Department Store, which will commence sales from 10:00am to 10:00pm, will be offering discounts starting at 25 per cent upwards to 70 per cent on items at its St James Street and Fairview Shopping Centre locations.

“Lloyd’s is always a leader in these things, nobody else comes close. Where others advertise all kind of discounts, they may have one little corner with all kind of little riff raff throw down, but here the base is 25 per cent. Everything we touch is a minimum of 25 per cent off. Of course we go up to 70 per cent and more, but the base, everything… all the new… everything is 25 per cent off and we running whole day from we opening right to 10:00pm,” Anthony Pearson, Lloyd’s managing director told the Jamaica Observer West.

Customers who shop at A&V Home Decor, located at 1 Harbour Street, Montego Bay will be treated to discounts ranging from five to 15 per cent.

“I am offering between five to 15 per cent discounts on selected items,” Alethia Thorpe, proprietor of A&V Home Decor, said.

At the Fashion Hut, located on Market Street in the resort city of Montego Bay, shoppers will get bargains of up to 50 per cent off selected items.

“Bargain hunters can expect up to 50 per cent off some of the clothes and shoes. We also just getting in new supplies of shoes and those you will get 10 to 15 per cent off. Some of the brands include Clarks for men and ladies, Nine West for ladies and some popular brands,” said proprietor Hope Sterling, who added that sales will start early to facilitate early shoppers.

She noted too that her store will be offering refreshments throughout the day which will climax with the cutting of a “TSO cake”, late evening.

Dermatology Solutions at the Sagicor Shopping Centre on Howard Cooke Boulevard, which will this week be celebrating its 10 anniversary, will be offering items at discounted rates of up to 20 per cent.

“We are having stuff all week. For TSO we giving 20 per cent discounts on medi spa services, gift certificates…,” Dr Arusha Campbell-Chambers said. Her establishment will be opened from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

She said a wellness fair will also be held on the grounds of Sagicor Centre, where free blood pressure checks and free anti-stress massages will be offered.

Customers will also get a chance to win gift certificates, Dr Campbell-Chambers told the Observer West.

Shoppers can expect massive discounts at the Fontana Pharmacy in the Fairview Shopping Complex.

“We are offering from 20 to 25 per cent off… household items, cosmetic items, as well as back-to- school items, so expect a whole lot of savings,” said Sacha Walters Gregory, marketing manager at Fontana. And of course we have extended specials for the entire weekend — from Friday right up to Sunday. But they get the biggest discounts on TSO night at our five locations — Mandeville, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Savanna-la-Mar and Barbican.”

A long list of other retailers across Montego Bay and Savanna-la-Mar, in Westmoreland, will also be participating in the annual event.

Meanwhile, a number of shoppers told the Observer West that they are looking forward to the bargains.

“I definitely will be out there looking for some of the bargains,” said Michelle Scott, a resident of Trelawny. “Take Style Out is really an excellent initiative.”

Other Trelawny residents too say that they will be journeying to the resort city of Montego Bay today to “enjoy the massive savings that will be offered during TSO”.
