Another ‘Bina’ injury
Former West Indies youth captain Ramaal Lewis suffered a suspected dislocated left shoulder on yesterday’s second day of the Jamaica Scorpions three-day trial match between Paul Palmer’s XI and John Campbell’s XI at Sabina Park.
The 19-year-old off-spinner injured his shoulder while diving to his left at cover to field a ball.
His effort took some of the pace off the ball, but he stayed on the ground as teammates circled nervously.
He was lifted to his feet and carried off the ground on a motorised drinks cart.
After preliminary checks by physical trainer David Bernard, he was taken in a vehicle driven by head coach Junior Bennett to get medical attention.
There have been a number of cases where players have sustained injury during this season’s trial matches.
Brandon King sustained a blow to the ribcage, while Andre McCarthy was painfully rapped on the finger.
No medical personnel has been on spot to assist in any of the incidents. Fortunately, neither King nor McCarthy suffered a broken bone.
Courtney Francis, the chief executive officer of the Jamaica Cricket Association, told Jamaica Observer that the franchise is unable to afford the services of medical personnel for trial matches.
