Cash Pot ‘Only One For Me’ — the stuff of dreams
In a dramatic reversal of running style, Dreamliner, known for running in front in his three previous starts, came from behind, on the rails, to win the Supreme Ventures sponsored Cash Pot ‘Only One For Me’ Trophy yesterday at Caymanas Park.
Ridden for the first time by veteran rider Richard ‘Byah’ Mitchell, Dreamliner (Porto Santo – Golden Olympico) was kept off the pace set by stablemates, Vision and Future King, before storming through on the rails in the straight to register a length and a quarter victory over Nuclear Affair with Future King third. The splits for the six-furlong event were 22.4 x 46.2 seconds for a final time of 1:13.0 minutes. The race lost some of its competiveness as Zugulu who was selling as favourite, injured himself in the starting gates and was declared a late non-starter by official veterinarians on duty
“My instructions were very clear. Break him (Dreamliner) well, keep him off the pace and then let him run and express himself over the last two furlongs.
“I did just that and the victory came as Dreamliner really responded in the straight. I am really very happy for this win but coming around the final bend, it was a little difficult for me to run because the space there was so tight but luckily I saw a little opening on the rails and I just pushed him (Dreamliner) through and took him home,” said Mitchell.
For trainer Wayne DaCosta and breeders YS (1955) Limited it was a dream Heroes’ weekend. They combined to win the Alex’s Imports Gold Cup on Saturday with Perfect Neighbour and then partnered to win with Dreamliner.
“A good weekend for sure, the Gold Cup on Saturday and now this major tw0-year-old race. A good ride by Mitchell who was not afraid to take the opening when it appeared, DaCosta said. Commenting on the late withdrawal of Zugulu, DaCosta stated: “It was really unfortunate for the owners of Zugulu, because it is very hard to prepare a horse for a big race like this and then lose it in the gates. He will be back for sure.”
Trainer Patrick ‘Wacky’ Lynch saddled his 200th career win on the 10-race programme. Lynch, who started the day on 198 winners, won with Tooting Kat in the opening event before bringing the curtains down with Perfect Flyer.
