Virgo delights at Trelawny Food and Music Fest
ROMAINE Virgo delivered an electrifying performance, much to the delight of the hundreds of patrons in attendance, at the third staging of the Trelawny Food and Music Festival held at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium on National Heroes Day.
Wild cheers erupted after the lanky singer was invited on stage by emcee Ron Muschett. The cheers grew even louder when the former Digicel Rising Star winner kicked off his marathon set with Who Feels It Knows It.
He eased through his wide repertoire of hits, including I Know Better, Rain Is Falling, Home With Me, Love Doctor, Stay With Me and others, which appeased his fans at the family event.
Both the young and more mature members of the audience showed appreciation for his renditions of retro classics, such as Let’s Get it On, When a Man Loves A Woman and Talk About Love.
The reggae segment of the show was kick-started by Food Kartel, who had the patrons eating out of his hands with servings of Cook It Inna, KFC Scan, Chicken Pon Me Brain, and more.
Medikal also connected with his version of Maxi Priest’s Best of Me and Dennis Brown’s For You and Should I.
The gospel segment, which was opened with a commanding set from Dr Roosevelt Crooks, was highlighted by the energetic performance of Kevin Downswell.
Like Virgo, the patrons seemed to have been awaiting Downswell’s appearance, and he did not disappoint them.
He earned the first encore of the night after reeling off That’s Enough, I’ve Made Up My Mind Already Done, It Must Be Done, and You Make Me Stronger.
Earlier, the children were entertained with several rides, bounce-a- bouts and other kids’ treats at the venue, which saw several booths offering a wide variety of local dishes.
