“Is AJ accusing the Observer of flexi-reporting?’
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Senator AJ Nicholson
News
October 26, 2015

“Is AJ accusing the Observer of flexi-reporting?’

Talk Back

A tirade against the Jamaica Observer by Foreign Ministry AJ Nicholson has overwhelmingly disgusted the newspaper’s online readers. Here’s how they reacted.

peejay the original

Whoa! And it looks like his claws will pop out soon !!

mama-ess

Lol! He gets agitated and spills the beans! He has served Jamaica well but it is time for him to move on. His position needs to be held by a calm person who thinks before he speaks.

spanishtown12

Is AJ accusing the Observer of Flexi-reporting? Lol. And if the CCJ is so great, why hasn’t Barbados followed through on the judgement handed down against them as yet….aren’t they a signator?

BTW, there are lots of PhDs, JDs/QCs and MDs in parliament… but are there any psychologist or psychiatrists?

Mars

What an ignorant old man! What the heck is his problem? AJ, since when politicians tell the paper what to write? Is Jamaica being run by a communist party? This buffoon has an axe to grind since Friday’s reporting. AJ, there’s freedom of the press. The press can write whatever it wants as long as it’s factual. You can’t force people to accept your position and you go berserk when they don’t. You rub people the wrong way and it’s time you quit politics so the people don’t have to endure your flawed personality.

mwhip

@Mars: A power get to his head.

PhilT McNasty

Nothing scarier than a dinosaur without teeth! It’ll chew on your flesh annoyingly, but is otherwise harmless.

yaadman

Who does this old egotistical man think he is? By his very action today, I am 100 per cent sure that I would not want him making any decisions on my behalf, much less one as important as going to the CCJ. Your party thinks people are smart enough to vote in elections, but not smart enough to vote in a referendum! What an insult!

Yadda

Here is the don. He tells everybody what to do and what to think

Neutral Justice

The real business of justice is not being done to benefit the people of Jamaica. Mark Golding is correct, the Privy Council does not participate in any form of local justice unless you’re a murderer sentenced to die, or the very rich. The Opposition leaderless action against the CCJ has not been clear since their leader used signed undated letters as a means to stop the CCJ from becoming mainstream. We all are aware of the scam by the opposition leader to use people’s referendums as a way hide and to disengage the process of many important things. Why not use referendums to determine his leadership?

C Gayle

@Neutral Justice: Bredren, your reasoning is off. Way off. The matter is simple, in order to have the CCJ fully entrenched just have the people vote on it. Other than that, what you have is a paper court or a court based on “agreement”. What kind of court is that? It can be altered or even disbanded at anytime if that is the basis on which it is established. Besides, why is it the government seems to believe that the people are good/informed enough to vote in general election but not good enough to vote in a referendum? Lol! Mad people.

ragga guru

@Neutral Justice: What is wrong in allowing the population to the decide their fate on a matter of great importance? What does the PNP have to lose if the people are allowed to make the final determination?

Andrew Simpson Miller

What is wrong with this political dinosaur? All he does is go around attacking anybody who has anything sensible to say. For the person who heads Jamaica’s diplomatic and foreign service, he certainly seem to love to pick fight and stir up contention.

veejay

For a man in that position he needs to conduct himself like he is intelligent. He hasn’t even adopted some good graces along the way. He treats people like lumpen and he makes poor judgement calls.

RAGGAMUFFIN

Guilty as charged, both PNP and JLP senators. Both parties are taking this matter which has serious and crucial consequences on the future of all Jamaicans and our way forward as a sovereign nation as an arena for political party speculations. This is purely and a sheer act of “political football”. The people’s business should never be treated as such…

mangoosetown

I have a number of problems. If the letter that the Observer saw and from which it has formed its opinion is legitimate, why is it it has not been given to the Government or the Senate? Why give it to the Observer first and not the state?

Mi2Cents

We have been depending on these politicians to make the best decisions on our behalf; which for the most part have amount to more pain and suffering. Allow us as Jamaicans to make this decision.

Robert Foster

So what’s the bloody deal? Just add the question of the CCJ becoming our Final Court of Appeal to the ballot in the upcoming General Elections… and let us the Jamaican people decide.

Mack

Mr Nicholson needs to stop making this about the Jamaica Observer when in fact it is about the fundamental rights of the Jamaican people.

Hardleychaw

I think this letter is a farce . …This letter serves no useful purpose as I think it presents a weak argument for the pro Privy Council bunch.

IMF2014

Caveman at it again. This is the AJ I know from I was a boy. A lot of those supporting CCJ are known PNP organisations. If it was PNP calling for referendum they would also agree. If CCJ is so popular, then put it to the people.

A.L.Smalling

Put the damn vote to a referendum! Let the people of Jamaica have a say in the future of their country.

CArlton Reynolds

Arnold, time to leave or keep quiet; those photos of you are quite weird, and your reasoning, well, weird too. NO TO YOUR CCJ, PRIVY COUNCIL WE SAY!

mccormacklindel

AJ, calm down and don’t send up your blood pressure. The Observer has been more than generous to your Government for the better part of the four years in government. What next? A march on the observer? You think this is the 1970s?

mccormacklindel

The death of 18 Jamaican babies could not moved AJ, but a simple editorial wounded him up like any pit bull. When politicians are going to learn that you can’t attack the press and win.

noshel

Mr Nicholson seem to be living in a cave for the past several decades! The Observer has to see with him; he is getting up in age, and as usual old people are always most likely to hold onto their belief even when you show them the evidence!…

He will soon wake up!.

Smokin Kevan

“Lord” Nicholson and friends have ridden the backs of the people for decades, grown fat and are holding on to what will be a legacy of failure like a crocodile eating for the last time. I noticed that Minister Falconer appeared uneasy at this press conference, but what could she say in the presence of his “Lordship”? Since this is politics, there can only be one reason the PNP does not let the people decide… they can’t win.
