Poets represent at Edna Manley amphitheatre
The Amphitheater at the Edna Manley College came alive on Tuesday night as the sounds of melodious poetry filled the air, coupled with various sounds of handmade instruments cheering the poets on.
The Poetry Society of Jamaica hosted their monthly poetry fellowship, which is held the last Tuesday of every month. The event is always a great success and this month was no different.
This month’s fellowship was dedicated to the late poet, playwright, actor and one of the fathers of West Indian literature, Dennis Scott.
A myriad of foreigners amongst other students and members of the fellowship paid tribute to the late literary mastermind.
The night was filled with performances of all genres of poetry for the open mic section of the program. Afterwards, a very unique and outstanding performance from the performing arts group, Tribe Sankofah maintained the audience’s rapt attention with a tribute to the late Dennis Scott.
If you are a poetry lover, a poet or a creative writer of any sort, poetry society is the place for you. Feedback is given on your work from a host of professionals at each fellowship. Be sure to visit the next fellowship that will be held the last Tuesday of November.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Our very own Jodian Downs performed her original work to brilliant feedback as well.
