Fearless Fury returns with a bang
FEARLESS Fury, benefiting from a brilliant and assured ride from jockey Wesley ‘Callaloo’ Henry, made a successful re-entry to competitive racing by landing the Flossie McNeil Memorial Cup at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Fearless Fury was coming off a 10-month break due to injury sustained after she won the Sunny Side Stakes over 1,100 metres last December, the only race in her career. Showing no signs of discomfort Fearless Fury unexpectedly came from the off pace, storming through between horses in deep stretch, to easily put away her 13 rivals by two-and-half lengths in the Restricted Allowance event for native-bred three-year-old and upward fillies and mares over 1,200 metres.
Dash Board (Ruja Lahoe astride) came from far behind to snatch second from Raising The Bar with Shane Ellis. Quick Chic, the mount of Robert Halledeen, completed the frame.
Part-owned and trained by Fitzroy Glispie, Fearless Fury (Fearless Vision – Raging Fury) stopped the clock in a moderate 1:14:0 minutes.
“She ran well after coming off a lengthy break. We did expect her to win but we were hoping that she wouldn’t break down in the race and she came through well and I am happy for her,” Glispie told the Sunday Observer.
Henry completed a double when he guided Eternal Joy to victory in the 10th race over 1,200 metres.
Also on the day, Tyrone Prince saddled his 100th winner when Rocketeer (Bebeto Harvey up) won the first race over 1,300 metres. Prince then made it 101 when he saddled Sporting Clay (Linton Steadman in the saddle) in the fifth race over 1,500 metres.
Earlier on the 10-race programme, Dreaming The Code made a smashing debut by destroying her nine two-year-old rivals by a commanding 12 lengths in the third race over 1,100 metres.
Bred, owned and trained by Carl Anderson, and ridden by Harriston Lewis, Dreaming The Code covered the distance in a quick 1:06:0 minutes, the fastest time done by any juvenile over the distance this season.
“She is a nice filly, and expect more from her as she develops,” Anderson warned.
Racing continues on Wednesday.
