What an entry!
Wow! Wow! And wow again! It has been a long time since a juvenile debutant has impressed as Dreaming The Code did on Saturday with a breathtaking victory in a maiden special weight event last Saturday.
Ridden by Harriston Lewis for owner, trainer and breeder, Carl Anderson, the bay filly, who was sent off as a 4-1 betting option, shot to the lead at the get-go and that was that for the rest of the nine runners. Cruising nicely on the lead with ears pricked, Dreaming The Code then took control of the 1,100- metre event when she opened a five-length lead approaching the home bend.
With minimum fuss from the jockey, Dreaming The Code powered home to win by 12 lengths, without breaking a sweat. Bird Catcher, under Barrington Bell, finished second with Orpheus, another length and a half adrift in third.
The highly fancied Piano Man came in a very disappointing fifth at 4-5, and was totally outpaced from start to finish. Dreaming The Code, by Coded Warning – Seaofdream by Law of the Sea, covered the distance in a very fast time for a first-time runner, 1:06:0 minutes after setting splits of 23:1 and 46:2 seconds.
As the owner, trainer and breeder, Anderson was understandably a very happy man, pleased with the first-time performance of his charge. “It was an excellent performance from Dreaming The Code. She ran as expected and it was a marvellous victory.
I sat down with the jockey and told him that because she is a first-time runner, he must put her right in front as we did not know how she would run if sand was to kick up in her face, and she just dismantled the field,” Anderson stressed. “Based on her breeding, I think that she will get a distance of ground and she will only improve from here on.
Let’s see how she comes out of the race and maybe you will see her back on the track to race in two to three weeks,” he added. The next big race for the youngsters is the Coca- Cola Juvenile Sprint scheduled for the Burger King Super Day on November 14.
If trainer Anderson goes that route, Dreaming The Code will be pitted against the likes of Dreamliner, Nuclear Affair, and the fractious Zugulu.
