Denbigh, Holmwood, Knox score wins in rural netball
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Junior champions Denbigh High thrashed Newell High 52-7 on Friday at Manchester High to open their account in the second round of the ISSA rural area netball competition with a win.
The trio of Kelly Scott, Denj Thomas and Zandre Cohen were the driving force for the central Clarendon girls, who were in cruise control the entire game.
They led 16-2 at the end of the first quarter, 30-4 at half-time, then dismissed their St Elizabeth-based opponents 22-3 in the second half.
“I think the girls executed well today,” said Coach Christine Bartley. “Of course there are some areas that need improvement, but this was a workman-like performance.”
Earlier, Hampton School outscored Mount Alvernia High 14-12 in a low-scoring contest at the same venue.
In Clarendon Park, Holmwood Technical eased by Dinthill Technical 41-14, Knox College defeated Guy’s Hill 36-20, while Manchester High recorded a 33-13 win against Glenmuir High.
Elsewhere, Albert Town triumphed 34-28 over The Manning’s School, Central High beat St Thomas Technical 29-15, Titchfield High topped Edwin Allen 29-17, Anchovy High dismissed Bishop Gibson 28-20, St Hilda’s clipped Frome Technical 22-21, Herbert Morrison were 17-14 winners over St Mary High, while Montego Bay High edged past Marymount High 18-17.
Meanwhile, in the lone senior game played in Mandeville, Denbigh eased by Hampton with quarterly scores of 11-2, 26-7, 32-12 and 41-15.
But it was another Clarendon school, Knox, who produced the widest margin of victory on the day. They crushed Old Harbour High 73-15 in Clarendon Park, where title holders Holmwood also beat Charlemont 40-12, and Manchester stopped Glenmuir 39-16.
At the Queen’s School, Titchfield got by Thompson Town 39-20, while Edwin Allen held off Yallahs High 26-23.
Elsewhere, Herbert Morrison whipped Buff Bay High 41-6, deCarteret College beat Irwin High 22-12, and Frome overcame Aabuthnott Galimore 23-20.
