Denis O’Brien’s love of how Jamaicans talk
Digicel’s top man has a soft spot for Jamaica and its citizens.
But it’s not so much the scenery, sand, sea and food. Instead, try the accent of the nation’s people.
Irishman Denis O’Brien, in a recent interview with the Jamaica Observer, did not make it a secret of how excited he gets when he is exposed to the utterances of the people of this north Caribbean island of 2.8 million inhabitants.
And he does not even have to go far to be saturated with juicy lyrical presentations.
“There is a guy I call Rohan who usually drives me around. He’s been with Digicel for years and his Jamaican accent is so strong and he is a guy who has an absolutely fantastic sense of humour ,” O’Brien told the Sunday Observer last week on one of his visits to the island, which was, among other things, used to address graduates of the University of the West Indies.
“What I like best about Jamaica is the average man on the street… You go to Germany you meet boring people but you come to Jamaica and you are just totally entertained by the quality of people.
“It doesn’t matter what walk of life you are from; everybody treats everybody the same when you are in Jamaica,” the telecoms company owner stated.
“I just like to close my eyes and move around whenever I am in Jamaica,” he added.
