Scotia clip NCB to lift inter-bank trophy
DEFENDING champions Scotiabank had to work hard to secure their ninth straight Western Sports/Jamaica National Building Society Norman Goodison Inter-Bank Football League at Winchester Park last Sunday as they clipped National Commercial Bank (NCB) 3-2.
Scotiabank went ahead in the 10th minute when central defender Oshea Montique made a meal of clearing the ball and was robbed by former national player Kevin Lamey, who easily fired past a hapless Kristopher Lewis in goal.
In the 21st minute Scotiabank central defender Elgin Mitchell was in a generous mood as he attempted a back pass to Nicholas McCreath, but the ball was intercepted by Sheldon Maragh who beat goalkeeper Obrian Duncan.
In the 29th minute, a sombre mood descended on the venue as NCB defender Oshea Montique sustained a fractured leg resulting from a tackle.
Nicholas Scott was red-carded in relation to the incident and Scotiabank were down to 10 players.
But this did not seem to affect them as they scored two more goals before the first half ended. Donovan Hibbert’s long-range shot from 30 yards skidded under goalkeeper Kristopher Lewis in the 37th minute to send Scotiabank 2-1 up and then, Kevin Lamey scored his second goal in the 44th minute when he dismissed two defenders before slotting home.
On the resumption, NCB came out seeking goals and Andre Messam scored their second goal in the 79th minute.
In the opening match, Sagicor Group and Jamaica National Building Society drew 2-2. Ryan Belone scored a brace in the 36th and 40th minutes to put JNBS 2-0 at half-time, but Andre Powell (63rd) and Paul Cunningham (85th) ensured a share of the points.
JNBS and Sagicor Group will meet at Winchester Park next Sunday to see who will play BOJ in the JamClear Cup final. Match time is 3:30 pm.
