St Lucia welcomes new joint venture involving J’can company
CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC) — Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony has welcomed the EC$25 million meat- processing facility here, a joint venture involving a Jamaican-based company.
“Many do not understand that a country largely survives by what it earns from exports. It is simply not enough to produce solely for domestic consumption,” Anthony said as he addressed the opening of the facility, a joint venture between Du Boulay’s Bottling and Caribbean Producers Jamaica (CPJ).
He said the plant, which will provide employment for 40 people, serves to “inspire hope and confidence in the potential of our country.
“It is a reminder that we — all of us — should believe in St Lucia and in the will of St Lucians to adapt, succeed and prosper,” Anthony said, adding that the plant comes at a time when the island’s tourism stakeholders are seeking to expand the hospitality sector.
He said the prospects for linkages between tourism, agriculture and the fisheries sector are reinforced by collaboration with private partner interests such as CPJ.
