SINCE the tender age of 15 years old, Dever Orgill has proven he is a special talent. Orgill is a clinical finisher who has an eye for the goal and likes to take on defenders at a fast pace. In 2005 while representing Jamaica at the U-15 level, he won the Golden Boot Award in the Caribbean Football Union’s Under-15 tournament held in Trinidad & Tobago after scoring 12 goals in six matches. Two years later, he made the progression to the U-17 level and he was the captain of the Jamaica U-17 team during the 2007 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, which was hosted in Kingston, Jamaica. Despite Jamaica not qualifying for the U-17 World Cup in 2007, Orgill showed his promise. He scored a goal and assisted one in a 3-2 win over the United States. This was Jamaica’s first win over the United States at any level.
In 2009, Orgill made the jump to the U-20 team where he scored seven goals in 13 games. The very next year Orgill made his debut for the Reggae Boyz in October 2010 in a 1-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago at the National Stadium. He made one more appearance for Jamaica later that calendar year in a 0-0 draw against Costa Rica in the United States.
Orgill had numerous injury issues between 2011 and 2014 with him missing many games for his club. Now in 2015, Orgill is ready to shake off the adversity of the past to use his finishing skills to help Jamaica qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Orgill started out his football in Portland playing with Progressive FC under the guidance of Raymond Grant, who is now general secretary of the JFF. Sparkling performances in the eastern parish led to him being signed by Canadian outfit Vancouver Whitecaps in 2008. Orgill spent two years with the Whitecaps where he improved on his finishing ability as well as movement on and off the ball. After this spell, the former Titchfield High School player came back to Jamaica and played with St Georges SC to get some first team opportunities. After doing so in 2013, Orgill made the move to Europe and signed with IFK Mariehamn in Finland. Orgill’s move to Finland has been a revelation for him. With the injury issues he had, he was able to handle knocks better. In addition, he found back his purple patch of form in 2015 where he helped his club win the Finnish Cup and qualify for the UEFA Europa League in 2016.
He was the top-scorer in the Finnish Cup and he was also the top scorer for his club that season with seven goals. Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz welcome back this promising player.
