Under-17 Girlz head off to Puerto Rico
Jamaica’s Under-17 Reggae Girlz depart the island this morning forPuerto Rico where they will participate in the final round of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Championships.
In Group B, Jamaica will open their campaign against the hosts on Friday, before tackling Bermuda and Cuba later on.
Trinidad & Tobago, Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Barbados will contest Group B.
The top-three teams will progress to the CONCACAF stage in Grenada early next year.
The ultimate goal of the Reggae Girlz is to advance to the Under-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in Jordan next September.
Jamaica topped their group during the first round of qualifying in Suriname in the summer, when they defeated Barbados 2-1 and whipped St Lucia 14-0, before closing with a 1-0 result over the hosts.
The contingent of team officials is completed by 12 players that will travel with seven officials out of Kingston to Puerto Rico via Miami this morning.
Their colleagues will journey directly from their overseas stations to join the group.
The 20-player squad boasts five members who were a part of Jamaica’s team which finished second at the CFU Under-20 tournament in Haiti last month.
They are Tarania Clarke, Rena Gordon, Sherice Clarke, Shanhaine Nelson, and Monique Perrier.
Other members of squad are Kendaya Chin-Jackson, Peta-Gaye Dixon, Marlee Fray, Nerisa Distant, Rachel Walters, Lacey-Ann Murray, Jody Brown, Giselle Washington, Kahdian Wright-Brown, Oneilia Yearde, Emily Caza, Lyana Steele, Erin Mikalsen, Shayla Smart, and Tiana Schroeter.
The group will be led by head of delegation Gregory Daley, and will also include Assistant Coach Xavier Gilbert, Team Manager Dennis Howard Bell, Equipment Manager Omar Folkes, physical trainer Kimberly Foster, physiotherapist Vanessa Rhule, and team doctor Ephraim Ingram.
Head Coach Lorne Donaldson will join up with the team in Miami.
