CISOCA launches probe into ‘rape’ video
THE Centre for Investigations of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) has commenced a probe into an apparent rape video posted to Facebook yesterday.
The footage, which is a recording of sexual intercourse between a man and a seemingly unwilling teenaged girl, was posted from the account of a man Facebook users have since alleged is 25 years old.
The sobbing female, whom several Facebook users said is 15 years old, could be heard saying “Odane, no! Odane, no!” while begging him to stop.
She said, “Odane, please, you wouldn’ waan nobody do your sister so, so please!”
The sobs continued.
“But yuh diss me,” the man argued. “Odane, please,” the female begged again.
The dialogue continued with him warning the female: “Weh mi seh? Stop di ….noise. One word out a yuh mouth an mi shot yuh a bax.”
The video has attracted several unfavourable comments with angry Facebook users accusing the man of being a rapist.
But the man defended his action, stating “All who a talk bout rape get this in a unnu heads, mi neva rape from mi born.”
He also wrote that he had evidence that the girl was still visiting him.
He has since deleted his Facebook page, but not before users — who called for him to be castrated and hanged — copied his supposed profile picture and circulated it in hopes that he would be caught quickly.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communication Unit (CCU) told the Jamaica Observer yesterday that the police were aware of the video and that CISOCA was investigating the matter.
The CCU, however, said it would not divulge much about its probe because of the sensitive nature of the case.
Minister of Youth Lisa Hanna has since condemned the incident telling Nationwide Radio that she had given instructions to the Child Development Agency to probe the incident.
Meanwhile, Opposition spokesperson on education and youth, Kamina Johnson Smith also condemned the incident and urged CISOCA to work with the police’s Cybercrimes Unit to track down the perpetrator and ensure that the victim is protected, counselled, and cared for.
She also urged social media users to cease circulating the video.
“The vulnerability of our young girls and women to rape and violence in general is out of control. More must be done. I hope and pray that the victim will find protection and will be kept safe so that she can identify her rapist and have him brought to justice. This will clearly not be an easy crime to solve, but we hope that the police will not be daunted and will put the necessary energies behind it,” Johnson Smith said.
