Under-20 Women’s Update: Jamaica whip T&T 6-1
SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras — Jamaica kept alive slim hopes of advancing to the semi-finals after beating Trinidad & Tobago 6-1 in Tuesday’s Group A CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s game at the Escuela Internacional Sampedrana in Honduras.
Oshay Nelson-Lawes scored a four-timer in minutes 22, 34, 46, and 87. Khadija Shaw (ninth minute), who was substituted in the first half after a knock to the back of the head, and Chanel Hudson-Marks (56th), got the other goals.
Tsaianne Leander got Trinidad’s goal in the 31st minute.
Jamaica, who led 3-1 at half-time, have four points and a goal difference of minus two.
The Young Reggae Girlz now await the result in this afternoon’s clash between Canada and Honduras. Canada have six points and are assured a place to the semis, while Honduras have four points and a goal difference of plus two. The Jamaicans’ hope is that Canada can beat Honduras by at least four clear goals.
Two countries from each of the two groups will advance to the semi-finals.
The top three teams will progress to the Women’s Under-20 World Cup set for Papua New Guinea next year.
