GRANVILLE, St James –
A number of teams will be seeking to atone for first-round losses when the second round of the Jamaica Football Federation’s Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League gets under way with four games on the weekend.
On Saturday, Zone 1 leaders Granville FC will host Salt Marsh United who beat them in the opening round, while Montego Bay Boys Club play Petersfield FC, who won the first game 2-0, in Westmoreland.
A day later Clark’s Town will hunt a fourthstraight home win when they seek to overturn a 1-3 loss to Wadadah FC in the first round.
The first round finished on Tuesday with Wadadah FC ending a three-game winless run with a 2-1 victory over Sandals Whitehouse, while Petersfield FC handed Salt Marsh United their second successive loss in a match that concluded 1-0.
Granville FC — which was awarded points from their game against Savannah SC that was not played on Sunday — lead Zone 1 on goal difference over Petersfield FC, both on 12 points, followed by Montego Bay Boys Club and Salt Marsh United, both on nine points. Lucea FC and defending champions Savannah SC are on one point each.
Promoted Reggae Youths lead Zone 2 over Clark’s Town on goal difference, both on nine points, one more than Wadadah FC. Beaches Negril follow with seven points, Sandals Whitehouse on five points and Village United with two points.
Akeem Whyte scored for Petersfield FC in the 28th minute before he was sent off for violent conduct, as the Westmoreland team edged Salt Marsh United 1-0 to maintain their perfect win record at home with three victories.
It was Salt Marsh United’s second loss in a row after winning their first three games on the trot, falling to fourth place in the tables.
Wadadah FC won their first game away from home this season and for the first time since the opening round when they clipped Sandals Whitehouse 2-1 as the home team lost back-to-back games to end the round.
All the goals came in the second half as Robert Lewis gave Wadadah FC the lead after 55 minutes, but Akeem Shackleford levelled the scores in the 82nd minute before Oshane Forbes got the winner in the 90th minute as time expired.
On Saturday, Granville FC will be gunning for a fifth straight win when they host Salt Marsh United who will be seeking to snap their two-game losing skid.
Granville FC have not allowed a goal since they lost 1-0 on the opening weekend, and will hope Salt Marsh United’s bad patch will continue.
Boys Club have won their last two, including the awarding of points from their game against Salt Marsh United, and will be gunning to stop the impressive Petersfield FC.
The Westmoreland club will start favourites despite the game being played in Montego Bay. The home team will, however, be without striker Roshane Reid, who was sent off in their game against Lucea FC on Saturday.
Clark’s Town, meanwhile, will be hard pressed to maintain their good run at home when they host a revamped Wadadah FC at Cedric Titus High.
In the other game on Sunday, Lucea FC and Savannah SC will be seeking their first win of the season when they meet at the Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea.
