My Mobay — Matthew Gore
What are your earliest memories of MoBay?
One of my earliest memories was returning to MoBay in 1990 after growing up in Florida for most of my childhood. I was excited to be back to my roots and I can still remember that feeling of excitement and anticipation I felt as the plane approached the beautiful north coast of the island.
What’s the most memorable meal that you have enjoyed in MoBay?
I would say Dragon Court Chinese Restaurant’s sushi nights are my most memorable because proper, good-tasting sushi is not a regular everyday meal you can buy in MoBay, so I always look forward to Wednesdays — Sundays 6:00 – 9:00 pm sushi hours.
What would you do if you were mayor of MoBay for a day?
Wow, good question! I would set up better traffic controls using more officers on the main streets to direct the flow of traffic, especially on school mornings and Wednesdays, cruise ship days. I would also try to set up better infrastructure for the homeless, and for the children in need who have no family to depend on, as well as trying to implement other poverty-alleviation strategies.
What would be your recommendations to a first-time visitor to MoBay?
I would recommend going for a swim at our famous beach, Doctor’s Cave, visiting the Greenwood Great House and seeing how MoBay was, as far back as the 1800s. Greenwood Great House is a must-visit for all, as it is very educational and enlightening. Then of course, I would have to recommend going to get a taste of our night life, partying at Pier 1 on a Friday night and Bluebeat/Margaritaville on Saturday night.
What’s your beverage of choice?
Good old white rum chased with Ting and a splash of water with lime.
Share the title of the last book you read.
The book of life,
The Bible, at least once a week to strengthen my faith and for spiritual guidance and direction.
What was the last bit of music you listened to that you enjoyed?
A new reggae CD compilation featuring Iba Mahr, Dre Island, Chronixx, Sizzla and upcoming artiste Thunda Storm.
What cologne are you splashing?

Share some places in your travel black book.
England, Miami, New York, the Cayman Islands, Barbados… of recent.
What do you consider your best and worst traits?
My best is that I respect everyone equally, no matter their position in life. My worst is not returning text messages or calls in a timely manner.
What was your last major splurge?
Like most drivers, my race car expenses, and upcoming 2016 circuit racing season preparations.
What is your philosophy?
Be original; be you; be real.
What are your pre- and post-race rituals?
My pre-race is trying to fully prepare the car more competitively and myself mentally and physically for an upcoming event. My post is usually stopping by the famous Bay Watch Bar & Grill in Discovery Bay with all my crew from Team MoBay, Team Amsoil and Team Grab-N-Go after a long race day to have a drink, wind down and chat about the race weekend.
If there were such a thing as the perfect race car, what would it look like?
That would be the 2015 VW Polo 4WD WRC car, both circuit and rally set-up.
As someone whose career is built on speed, is there any area of your life that you’re unexpectedly measured in?
Recently, I have embraced a little modelling, which has been a really cool experience!
What are the most overrated specs on an automobile, and why?
I would say a body kit. The creativity it unleashes can get ridiculous, which in turn may dilute the identity and features of any car type or model.
Name the drivers, living or dead, who would comprise your dream race.
Aryton Senna, Juan Pablo Montoya, Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Snr, Kimi Raikkonen, Michael Schumacher, and Sebastian Loeb.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever done to, or with, a trophy?
Drinking Drappier Carte Blanche Champagne, gifted to me by Robert Hoehenher of Arosa, out of my huge, three-foot-tall 2012 Jamaica Motoring Club Rallysport Drivers Championship trophy at its annual awards ceremony!
