Gayle slams critics on Instagram
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The ‘flirtatious’ Jamaican batsman Chris Gayle has lashed out against critics in a crass Instagram posting telling them in local vernacular “y’all can kiss my Black R**s”.
The post, which has so far garnered 22 654 likes, was in response to harsh criticisms over his on air flirtation with an Australian TV journalist, Mel McLaughlin.
He faced widespread backlash for his ‘inappropriate’ remarks when he told McLaughlin she had beautiful eyes and said ‘don’t blush, baby’ in the television interview two weeks ago.
In the post which accompanied a picture of himself celebrating a double century during the 2015 Cricket World Cup, Gayle thanked the Renegades, Piers Morgan, Kunal ‘Gold Bat’ Sharma and the media among others.
He also used the medium to attack present and former players who “failed to stand up for him” and also thanked Australian fans for their support following a record Big Bash innings on Monday.
“I think a lot of past and present cricketers who smile in front my face could’ve have there say In the public when my so call issue was going on, but y’all don’t have the BALLs to stand firm when it matters – but yet when u see me you’re like, Chris that’s BS against you, it was blown out of proportion,” the West Indies batsman said.
The lengthy Instagram post also appeared to take aim at Australian television commentator and former English cricket captain Andrew Flintoff who tweeted his distaste at Gayle’s on air flirtation, saying although he was a big fan, he “made himself look like a bit of a chop”.
“The past cricketer who say I make myself look like a chop, the other who claim I was no good to the youngsters while playing for the thunder, the next one who said he expect that sort of behavior from Chris – Y’all can kiss my ‘Black R**s,” Gayle wrote.
‘I love Australia and I will be back again…’
Gayle smashed 50 from 12 balls for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League on Monday to equal India’s Yuvraj Singh’s record for the fastest half-century in Twenty20 cricket.
