Man, woman convicted for using forged job letter to get visa
A woman and a man who attempted to secure a United States visa using a forged Jamaica Football Federation job letter were each fined $70,000 when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Both accused — Shamara Davis and Richardo Burrowes — pleaded guilty to the charges of forgery and uttering forged documents.
Police reported that Davis and Burrowes claimed that they were associated with the Jamaica Football Federation and presented a letter, allegedly from the federation, to help them secure their visas. However, embassy officials, on realising that the document was fraudulent, called in the police and the two were arrested.
When they appeared in court their attorney told Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey that his clients knew that the content of the letter was not true.
They were each fined $40,000 or six months for uttering a forged document, and $30,000 or six months for forgery.
