Football Transfer Round-Up
The January transfer window ends in just a few days and Chelsea’s interim manager, Guus Hiddink, has completed his first signing for the club. Alexandre Pato, the once highly rated striker, completed his medical on Thursday and is expected to remain on loan at the club for the next six months. Pato admits that he is a bit nervous and says that he is anxious to get to know his new team mates, “I need to play, I need to, I don’t know what to say because I’m so happy,” the Brazilian stated. “I’m very anxious. I want to get to know my new friends and my new team, I really want to play at Chelsea.” Chelsea has given Pato a second chance at succeeding in Europe after his unsuccessful time at AC Milan where he left in 2013 after a string of serious injuries and bad performances. However, it is believed that Pato rejected a big money move to China in order to complete his move to the Premier League, which shows his determination to still achieve success at the highest level.
In other news, the Stamford Bridge faithful can also expect another addition to their squad after the Blues completed the signing of US international Matt Miazga, who is a very promising prospect. The 20 year old centre back completed a 3.5m pound move from New York Red Bulls on Wednesday night. If we are to go by reports we should expect to see a lot more of this highly rated defender who has been promised first team action rather than an immediate loan move away from the club.
Newcastle United has signed England international Andreas Townsend from Tottenham on a five and a half year deal. It is believed that the 24 year old, who spent 15 years at his boyhood club, has some regrets after leaving the Spurs. Townsend insists that he wanted to spend most of his career at Tottenham but hopes of that were dashed after he had an altercation with the fitness coach back in November and was subsequently frozen out by current coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has signed for Crystal Palace. The Togolese international had spent the last five months as a free agent following his release from Spurs last summer.
With the arrival of Pato at the Bridge, it would seem as if Loic Remy has been pushed further down the pecking order and reports suggest that he is to make an imminent return to Newcastle United after he had had a brief loan spell with the club before his move to Chelsea. However the Magpies coach, according to the Daily telegraph, is more interested in West Brom striker Saido Berahino and will move for Remy if they fail to get their target.
