Portmore tackle Bodles in St Catherine KO final
SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine — Portmore United will start as the overwhelming favourites when they take on Bodles FC in the final of the St Catherine FA/Happy Sutherland Knockout competition at the Spanish Town Prison Oval today.
Kick-off is 6:00 pm, with Major League sides Dunbeholden FC and Frazsiers Whip set to meet in the curtain-raiser at 3:30.
Premier League campaigners Portmore advanced to the championship game after dethroning title holders Rivoli United 2-0 in one semi-final, while Bodles, a Division One outfit, sealed their passage with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Major League side Royal Lakes in the other game.
Irrespective of the result of today’s final, both sides will campaign in the All-Island KO competition. Portmore are assured of a place due to their Premier League status, while Bodles will represent the parish.
Bragging rights and the winning purse will, therefore, be the motivation for both finalists. And if their form so far this season is anything to go by, then Portmore should walk away with the plaudits at the end of the game.
They are currently third in the Red Stripe Premier League on 43 points, having won 13, drawn four and lost seven of their 24 games thus far.
Bodles, on the contrary, are chasing promotion to the St Catherine Major League. But, on 14 points, they currently sit outside the semi-final places in the Division One competition on goal difference, winning four of their eight games. Beating Portmore will, therefore, be a mountainous task.
But having come from two goals down to stun Royal Lakes in the semis, Bodles will no doubt back themselves in this ‘David vs Goliath’ match-up — especially since their opponents are currently on a three-game losing streak in the Red Stripe Premier League.
