PNP thanks parliamentarians, senators for their service
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The People’s National Party (PNP) in a press release Sunday expressed their gratitude to the 63 outgoing members of Parliament and 21 senators for their service over the last four years.
PNP General Secretary Paul Burke said that the term of Parliament that started in January 2012, has produced some of the most profound legislation in the history of independent Jamaica, affecting the nation’s national security, economy, foreign policy, investments, job creation, health, gender and children’s issues, education, governance, and the general laws of Jamaica.
The Houses were dissolved on Friday, ahead of Nomination Day on Tuesday, when the candidates who are to face the electorate in the February 25th election will register their papers.
Burke said he wished all Jamaicans to understand that although Parliament and the Senate was now dissolved, the Government’s work continues and that Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and her Cabinet ministers are still on the job “steering the ship Jamaica” until the next swearing in of elected and appointed executives.
“The work of our PNP Government continues unabated and at full speed. The business of running Jamaica must continue,” Burke said.
He said some of the most significant legislation dealt with in the past four years concerned matters that will “take the children and grandchildren of today’s Jamaicans into a better future, in which much of our hopes and expectations will be brought to fruition”.
Burke also said goodbye to Michael Peart, Lloyd B Smith, DK Duncan, Raymond Pryce, Patrick Atkinson, and Damion Crawford who will not return for the next sitting of Parliament.
“We of the People’s National Party say a heartfelt thank you to all who served, for their time, effort and sacrifice in the service of the people of Jamaica,” he said.
