1. The Premier League may just be the most unpredictable league.

If someone had said at the start of the season that Leicester City  and Tottenham Hotspurs would be leading the league, you would have probably laughed at them. If they had gone on further to say that Chelsea would have been battling relegation for the first half of the season you would have probably just walked away. But in the second half of the 2015/2016 season all of these things came true. This week really cemented the fact that Leicester City does not only seem likely to grace the Champion League stage but it isn’t far fetched that they would run away with the league. Leicester City beat Liverpool 2-0 midweek and trampled Manchester City 3-1 this weekend. The talks of Manchester City winning the league have certainly been quietened after that result. 

Also, the Spurs that narrowly missed out on Champions League for this season do not look as if they’ll make the same mistake twice. While Spurs are second, edging Arsenal on goal difference, they look as though they will at least finish top five. 

2. David de Gea saved Manchester United again.

It is no secret that Manchester United does not look like a team that has five Premier League titles in 10 years. A win against Chelsea would have incited at least a little hope in the Van Gaal administration, but no such luck.

It is not hard to believe the 1-1 result of the clash between the Premier League giants considering they have both been defensive this season.The Red Devils were leading Chelsea 1-0  through a strike from Jesse Lingard and provided constant pressure, but David de Gea had to make some pretty impressive saves to deny Chelsea the three points. Without him it would have been a whole different ball game..

3. Barcelona is lucky

While it is true that Barcelona is on form and ready to achieve another treble, they cannot lose their focus now. This weekend they beat struggling Levante 2-0. It was an own goal from David Navarro that gave them the lead and a goal in added time from Luis Suarez that gave them the three points.  

Yes, they got the three points but it was their worst performance of the season. They were barely able to get a goal past Levante who despite being at the very bottom of the table, was praised for their excellent match performance – not the La Liga champions. With two iffy performances (after the one against Atleti) in quick succession, one can’t help but wonder if they can keep this up. Their 7-0 romp of Valencia in the Copa Del Rey semifinals may just have been their lucky day… again.4. Luka Modric saves the day.

Real Madrid were left scrambling to find the winner after Granada’s Youssef El Arab cancelled Benzema’s first half goal. It seemed as though Los Blancos would have had to settle for the point and slip further down the table but Luka Modric saved the day and their pride.

If it wasn’t for Modric I’d have to report that things were looking dismal for the La Liga giants. Interestingly, the equalizer was blamed on Modric for losing the ball after he bumped into the referee. The goal was good atonement and all is forgiven. It was very important that Real Madrid not drop any points this weekend or else it would be unlikely that they would win the title. Zinedine Zidane, the club’s coach noted that this game was a “must win” for the team. The defense has been failing them this season and may become their undoing. Real Madrid still have to be very careful, they can’t afford another scare like that.

5. Juventus is great.

Juventus has extended their winning streak to 12 games as they beat Frosinone with goals from Juan Cuadrado and Paulo Dybala. Recovering from their dreadful start to the season to sit in second place has to be a criteria that defines greatness in a football team. Juventus are now two points below table toppers Napoli.

Juve will have their chance to go atop the table next weekend when they play Napoli. This match could very well determine who will walk away with the title. If they win, it is hard to see someone else beating them to the league trophy.
