Schools remain open nomination day, but will close on election day
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Chief Education Officer Grace McLean today advised that all schools should be held on nomination day, which is scheduled for tomorrow.
However, she said that schools should be closed at noon on Wednesday, February 24, to facilitate preparation for election day, which is February 25.
McLean also said in a media release Monday that all schools should be closed on election day, whether or not they are designated polling stations.
“In the case of those schools that will be used as polling stations on election day, principals are asked to ensure that the rooms (auditoriums) and bathroom facilities assigned to the Electoral Office are cleared and cleaned,” McLean said. “All other areas of the school not assigned for election day activities should be closed.”
Schools are expected to reopen on February 26 and in cases where schools will not be able to convene on the designated day, she instructed that school administrators immediately alert the respective regional directors.
