Same Difference gets second wind
COMEDIC play, Same Difference is being remounted at the newly opened Phoenix Theatre in New Kingston.
Same Difference tells the story of two neighbouring families of different social background and aspirations who find themselves in a rivalry, when more than just property lines get crossed in a bid to establish controlling rights and importance. As both families try to outdo each other, suspense, drama and hilarity ensues. But at the end what becomes apparent is that, at the heart of it, most of us are essentially the same.
“There is such amazing chemistry among the actors you will love them, you will hate them, you will pity them…whatever the emotion, you will become invested in the story,” said playwright Dahlia Harris.
“I know audiences come to theatre for laughter and entertainment. However, it is those moments that leave them thinking, moments that force them to reflect on life that stay with them the longest.
Same Difference is as hilarious as it is impactful and will heighten the debate about classism.”
The cast includes Volier ‘Maffi’ Johnson, Deon Silvera, Maylynne Lowe and newcomers Shantol Jackson and Desmond Dennis.
For Lowe, Same Difference is an exceptional experience.
“It isn’t often that I get to work with a female playwright or director. She can get you to find parts of your character that you might not have noticed. Dahlia is all about the details and getting the timing right so that the audience can get maximum enjoyment and the other cast members are right on point with me,” said Lowe.
Same Difference, which had an initial run during the Christmas and New Years’ period at the Karram Speid Auditorium in Kingston, is showing on Tuesdays – Saturdays at 8:30 pm and Sundays at 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm.
