JRDC on track
Events Incorporated, in association with the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC), will hold the first of six track days at Dover Raceway, St Ann, on Sunday.
The event — scheduled for 10:00 am to 4:00 pm — is free for all qualified participants.
“The track day provides training for the Bracket 45 competitors as well as track experience for all. All one has to do is sign up on the day,” Dean Corrodus, event co-organiser, told
Auto.
The track day is open to all entrants with a valid driver’s licence, a crash helmet, and of course a road-worthy vehicle. The day will be split into two, theory and practical. The theory will take the form of two hours of classroom training, after which the drivers can take to the course under instructions from any of the trainers on hand.
“We are looking at having Doug Gore and Maurice Whittingham as instructors,” Corrodus explained.
The student to teacher ratio is capped at 5:1 to ensure maximum learning. The aim is to teach concepts such as vehicle dynamics, safety, and the use of circuit indicators such as flags.
The track days are part of an initiative to help grow the sport by bringing young fresh talent to the front, while allowing the automotive hobbyist an outlet for their need for speed. Four of them were held in 2014 across Jamaica’s two main circuits; Dover and JamWest Speedway, Westmoreland.
