Two vehicles crash into truck as firefighters extinguish blaze, 2 die
HANOVER, Jamaica – Two people were killed in a three-vehicle collision on the Rio Bueno main road, in Trelawny on Wednesday.
Dead are 42-year-old Neville Malcolm of Malcolm Heights in Lucea, Hanover, and a woman identified as Leonie Rose.
Reports from police in Rio Bueno are that about 4:45 am, the driver of a Leyland motor truck was heading towards Montego Bay, St James, when the motor vehicle developed difficulties and caught fire.
The Falmouth Fire Department responded and was extinguishing the blaze when a Ford Fiesta motor car reportedly crashed into the Leyland motor truck. An Isuzu motor truck that was travelling in the same direction then reportedly crashed into the Ford Fiesta motor car and then into the Leyland motor truck.
Malcolm, who was the driver of the Ford Fiesta motor car, died on the spot, while Rose, who was a passenger in the Leyland motor truck, sustained injuries and was transported to hospital, where she later died.
The firefighters and the drivers of the Isuzu and Leyland motor trucks were transported to hospital for treatment.
The scene was processed by the Accident Investigation and Reconstruction Unit.
