Gibson Relays Saturday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The stage is set for the 40th edition of Jamaica’s biggest relay carnival the Gibson/McCook Relays which will run off tomorrow at the National Stadium.
The event is scheduled to get under way at 9:00 am with the heats of the high school boys 4x400m relays.
The carnival is once again expected to spark fireworks with top-class competition in relays and selected individual events which will thrill patrons for nearly 12 hours.
There will be competition in the 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m and sprint medley, as well as several individual events — long and high jump open for women; pole vault open for men, mile run for male and female, men’s and women’s 100m and 400m races.
The main excitement, however, is expected to come in the relays where the high schools continue their build-up for the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships in March, while a number of senior athletes are expected to turn out for clubs and institutions.
