11-member committee to examine PNP’s election loss
THE Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has named an 11-member appraisal committee to conduct a formal assessment of the reasons that contributed to its electoral defeat in the February 25 General Election.
The committee, chaired by Member of Parliament Julian Robinson, had its first meeting today where it defined its scope and work plan.
Other members are:
• Mark Golding – former minister of justice;
• Wensworth Skeffery – deputy general secretary;
• Scean Barnswell – mayor of May Pen;
• Basil Waite – former senator;
• Andrae Blair – president of the PNPYO;
• Noel Sloley Jr – businessman;
• Dr Peter John Gordon – university lecturer;
• Dena Davis – businesswoman;
• Patrick Casserly – businessman; and
• Beverly Shirley – university lecturer
A PNP release said the committee has defined three areas of scope for its review — the Government, party and campaign.
“The review of the Government will assess the impact of the economic reform programme on the population and, specifically, the political communication of the benefits of the economic reform programme,” the release said.
At the same time, the review of the party will examine issues related to candidate selection; the party’s core values and message; the roles of the arms and affiliates; the status of party workers; and political education.
The review of the campaign, meanwhile, will examine issues related to the campaign strategy and message; communications, including social media; and the management structure.
The PNP said an interim report is expected to be presented within 30 days and a final document by the end of April.
