Cops seize 4 firearms, 51 rounds in 24 hours
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police is reporting that four firearms and 51 rounds of ammunition were seized in separate incidents over the past 24 hours
In the first incident cops assigned to the Hunts Bay Police Station were on patrol in the Majesty Gardens area of St Andrew about 8:00 am yesterday when a man was shot and injured during a confrontation with the police team.
A 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing three 9mm rounds was allegedly seized following the incident. The injured man was taken to hospital where he was admitted. His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
The matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), the police reported.
Later in Spanish Town about 1:00 pm, a police team was carrying out a special operation when a premises was searched and a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver with one .38 round of ammunition was found. The occupants, a male and a female were taken into custody; however, their identities are being withheld pending further investigation.
Meanwhile in Anchovy, St James the police seized a Glock pistol and two magazines containing thirty-eight 9mm rounds of ammunition after they were alerted to the scene of a robbery about 11:30 pm.
Six people were taken into custody in relation to this incident and four motor vehicles seized. The identities of those in custody are being withheld pending further investigation.
In another incident, which took place in Montego Bay, St James today about 5:30 am, lawmen assigned to the Barnett Street Police Station were on patrol in the Barracks Road area when they saw a man run onto a premises. He was subsequently accosted and searched and a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing ten 9mm rounds of ammunition was taken from him. He was taken into custody; however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
