Boxer at 70
Passage: Flotsam and Jetsam I; mixed media on canvas.

Boxer at 70

Jamaica’s art establishment convened on Thursday, March 17, at Seaview Fine Art, 5 Seaview Avenue for the birthday reception of noted curator and art historian David Boxer and his latest collection — David Boxer — The Seventh Decade — an exhibition of selected works completed between March 17 2006 and March 16, 2016. Readers of Page 2 would recall that the icon and maestro was paid an under-the-radar visit by Hollywood royalty Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones for accelerated art history tutelage via an informal — but to-die-for — curriculum produced on the sheer strength of his extensive, private collection.

The timeline to the Seventh Decade has seen the septuagenarian battle illness, suffer loss, have his works immortalised through publishing, and travel in the name of his craft on the exhibition and talk circuits. Issuing our own congratulations, SO draws closer to a renewed hearth, that suggests a new chapter in a life, already, so boldly charted.
