Wata Land making a strong impact
Wata Land located approximately 15 minutes outside of Ocho Rios, in St Mary is creating quite a stir.
When the Jamaica Observer’s North and East team visited the property, it was clear to see why the attraction is generating interest.
Apart from its exotic pools, Wata Land has a hiking trail, an educational tour of the property which once housed a sugar plantation, and a wide range of other entertainment, including a tractor tour and go-carts.
Wata Land has been attracting many visitors since tentative opening in 2014.
Its recently opened new pool (200 x 60 ft) is expected to attract hundreds more visitors.
Gobind Dansinghani, managing director of Wata Land, informed North and East that the new pool was constructed because “there is a positive demand for swimming”.
According to Dansinghani: “While the other pools on property allow for swimming, they have many other activities. This new pool will only be used for swimming. Apart from this pool, there are two other lakes and a pool for the children. The main lake or pool is an activities lake with slides and an aqua pad obstacle course. The second lake is used for kayaking. The kid’s pool is also equipped with an ice bucket, which also attracts adults.”
The lake equipped with slides, is one of the favourites at Wata Land. There are three sets of slides with the first two sets carrying three slides each.
“There are slides for the less adventurous and slides for the very adventurous,” Dansinghani said.
He pointed out that there is the very tall slide, referred to as ‘Goliath’ or the monster slide by many.
But water is not the only adventure Wata Land offers. For those who enjoy nature there is the hiking trail in the cool White River Valley and there is also an open area for those who want the enjoy the natural water source.
Students are able to view artefacts which were found on the property during the building process. These have been preserved and displayed for viewing by persons who are interested in history.
Dansinghani says it was not an overnight decision to make this great investment in Jamaica.
The entrepreneur stated that he looked at other countries and then decided to do invest in his own country, Jamaica.
“I looked at Jamaica and I asked the question – should I invest outside or should I invest in Jamaica?
“After much thought and evaluation, I decided to invest in the country of my birth,” the businessman said.
Wata Land is a member of some of the world’s leading associations, including the World Wide Parks Association and the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions.
Dansinghani assured that the location is a safe one with the necessary services in place. Trained and certified lifeguards and security guards are on the property, which opens from Tuesdays to Sundays. Wata Land is open on Mondays when that day is a public holiday.
“The main thing we are offering is affordable, family fun,” Dansinghani said.
“It really warms my heart to see a busload of persons coming into our water park.
“There are enough activities to spend the entire day here.
“This is a very unique location; I don’t think there is another location in Jamaica which offers all these facets or attractions in one place,” he said.
He informed that Wata Land is certified by the Tourism Product Development Company and the National Environment Planning Agency, and is a licensed tourist attraction.
He said outside of the entertainment package, the property also has two restaurants.
