Faulkland, Tomorrow’s People on course for semi-final berths
GRANVILLE, St James — Leaders Faulkland FC and second-placed Tomorrow’s People could book the first semi-final spots in the St James Football Association Sandals/ATL Senior League with wins in today’s set of third-round matches.
Both teams drew 2-2 in their big clash on Friday, only slowing down their inevitable qualification and left them a point apart at the top of the points table.
Faulkland FC, who will play relegation-threatened Norwood Strikers at the Granville Community Centre, lead with 28 points from 12 games with Tomorrow’s People, who will host Marl Road FC at Bickersteth, a point back on 27, also from 12 games.
Montego Bay Under-21, whose semi-final hopes were dented on Friday when they lost to Lilliput Rovers, will play Mountain Villa at the UDC field.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Catherine Hall beat Violet Kickers 2-0 to move into joint leadership with Faulkland FC, while Melbourne FC’s struggles continued as they were beaten 2-1 by Heights FC.
Catherine Hall got first-half goals from Donovan Flowers and Ricardo Wilson to chalk up their eighth victory and within touching distance of a place in the top four.
Melbourne FC have lost their last four games and have slipped to fourth place on 20 points from 13 games played and could miss the semi-finals after a good start.
Neil Clarks in the 82nd minute and Ricardo Wilson in the 88th minute scored for Heights FC before Trevon Allen pulled one back for Melbourne FC in the 89th minute.
In one other game, Lilliput Rovers beat Seba FC 4-1 as Jeremy Bucknor scored a hat-trick.
Today, both Faulkland FC and Tomorrow’s People are expected to win and secure their semi-final places.
Last Friday, Faulkland FC came from two goals down to earn a point at Tomorrow’s People and stay tops.
Phillip McDonald in the 12th minute and Leon Irving in the 14th minute had given the home team the lead against a Faulkland FC team depleted with three players away at the national Under-20 training camp.
Okeeve Lewis, who transferred in January, scored his first goal for Faulkland FC in the 70th minute to cut the deficit in half before Christopher Stone equalised 10 minutes later.
Catherine Hall continued their good season, beating a slumping Melbourne FC 2-0 at the UDC Field with second-half goals from Keatanna Dawkins in the 61st and Richardo Taylor in the 70th minute.
Lilliput Rovers did themselves some good with their come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Montego Bay United Under-21, moving to mid-table safety on 16 points.
Deshane Beckford in the second minute and Tevin Kerr in the 23rd minute gave MBU Under-21 a 2-0 lead as they sought to make a push for the top four.
Delroy McLeod scored the first of his double in the 29th minute to pull his team to within a goal at half-time.
Jeremy Bucknor then levelled the scores in the 58th minute before McLeod scored the winner in the 67th minute of play.
