Trainer Anthony Nunes to Counter Attack in Simply Magic Cup
My Way could show the way in the Simply Magic Cup Sunday feature at Caymanas Park today.
My Way is a three-year-old chestnut gelding running for the third time and trained by the leading trainer Wayne DaCosta. A winner on the second time of asking, My Way heads a field of seven three-year-olds and upward, which include imported three-year-olds and upward maidens and three-year-olds (NW2) going 1,820 metres.
Post time for the feature is at 4:40 pm, with first post at 1:10 pm.
It is not a field of prodigious talent, so while the gelded son of Market Rally is expected to lead the way, being one of the six winners in the field, the call is anticipated to be a competitive one with most coming from Counter Attack, Another Fur, The Promise Land, the recent winners Dr. Train and Mr. Doitbetta.
The Promise Land scored his lone win over the distance and returns to his happy hunting ground just as light at 51.0kg. When winning, The Promise Land had One Thousand Stars behind followed by Mr. Doitbetta, and with Wesley Henry up for trainer, Christopher Pierre must have as good a chance as any to land the gamble.
Three races after his useful effort going 1,820 metres, Mr. Doitbetta demonstrated his liking for distance running by opening his winning account over 2,000 metres. Lorenzo Robinson, breeder, owner and trainer of Mr. Doitbetta, discovered the usefulness of the blinkers, tie tongue, lasix combination and will enhance this by continuing with the claiming apprentice Hakeem Pottinger in the saddle.
Another Fury, trained by Fitzroy Glispie for breeder/owner Orange Valley Estates, is also suitably bred to get the trip and has trained with that in mind, and with the keen claiming apprentice Jerome Innis called upon to pilot the grey filly, deepens the competitiveness of the Sunday evening entertainment.
Counter Attack, the real enigma of the campaign, has the beating of this field, but could prove to be a hard buy. Notwithstanding, the Market Rally chestnut colt has been prepared for a competitive effort going a distance that he should enjoy. Linton Steadman, one of the leading apprentices at the Park, gets the call and this should reward trainer Anthony Nunes with another win with a counter attack.
