Wayne DaCosta set to become winningest trainer at Caymanas Park today
Fifteen-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta enters today’s race meet with a glorious chance of becoming the conditioner with the most wins in the history of thoroughbred racing at Caymanas Park.
Last Saturday, DaCosta joined 14-time champion Philip Feanny on a record of 1,950 winners on the trainers’ all-time list when his three-year-old bay gelding
Dysfunctional, ridden by Omar Walker, easily won the sixth race, a maiden condition event by five-and-a-half lengths over 1,500 metres in 1:33.3 minutes.
“It is a really great feeling to equal the record of all-time winners. I have never thought that I would equal Feanny’s record, but I am happy,” DaCosta told the
Jamaica Observer after the race.
DaCosta is well poised to become the leading trainer as he has nine runners on the 11-race Grooms Appreciation Day programme, while Feanny has only two runners.
Based on the nature of the programme, it is predicted that DaCosta will have at least two or three winners, while it is unlikely that Feanny will saddle any winners today.
DaCosta has
Supertronics (Omar Walker up) in the fifth race over 1,000 metres straight;Runnaway Gal, also under Omar Walker, andHe’s A Machine (Andre Powell up) in the sixth race over 1,100 metres;Super Cop (Omar Walker) andCreedence (Oneil Scott) in the eighth race over 1,100 metres;Royal Vibes (Omar Walker) in the ninth race over 1,600 metres; andSeeking My Dream (Omar Walker),Hover Craft (Jerome Innis) andPerfect Neighbour (Robert Halledeen) in the 10th race, the Legal Light Trophy over 1,820 metres.
