Portmore needs a support structure
Dear Editor,
Portmore needs some renewed drive to lift the entire community from the quagmire it seems to be in. We need the intervention of all stakeholders from a wide cross section of the political structure to come to a consensus to obliterate some of the unwelcome situations which seem to have become a part of our lives.
From my analysis, Portmore needs better infrastructure in place to prevent residents from travelling out of the community on a daily basis. More jobs needs to be created.
If more centres for the advancement of the cause of the people are created then we will no longer be squealing about the toll increases so regularly. If the people can circumvent the toll factor then the community will be on its way towards upward social mobility. The toll issue has created much hardship on the people. We need more centres wherein people can have the functional opportunities to drive economic growth.
There are a few tourism products in Hellshire and there is ample space to develop viable sport products. The acting Mayor of Portmore Leon Thomas can intervene and work with other parties like the Ministry of Local Government to achieve this dream.
Moreover, with parish status on the books to be implemented we need to put structures and processes in place.
Crime, corruption, rape and extortion need to be looked at carefully before we can say we have overcome some of our shortcomings. We need to build more factories to facilitate the young people and to engage unattached and at-risk youth.
