Now there is no doubt – Seeking My Dream among the best
There were still doubts after Seeking My Dream won the inaugural running of the Diamond Mile on December 5, 2015. The purists were still not convinced that the Derby winner could be considered among the best to have graced the racetrack at Caymanas Park.
After his defeat by Franfield on March 12, 2016 in the seven-and-a-half-furlong Chairman’s trophy, the Seeking My Dream naysayers have been saying, “We told you so.”
Then came Saturday, April 23, 2016, and the specialist two-turn course of nine furlongs and 25 yards in a race honouring Legal Light– unquestionably one of the greatest horses to ever place hooves at the Park.Seeking My Dream, who seems to be in his ‘ackee’ at four, destroyed rivals by five lengths, allowing weight to all, with jockey Omar Walker standing tall from half-a-furlong out.Seeking My Dream won without really breaking a sweat, and easily outpaced some of the best horses in training at this time.
It was simply amazing to witness the burst of acceleration by Seeking My Dream at the top of the straight. It was electric, it was scintillating, and it was pure joy to watch.
The final time posted by Seeking My Dream – 1:55.2 minutes – equalled the mark set in 2006 by another legend of the track, Miracle Man.
All lingering doubts have been quelled.
Seeking My Dream is very special and at present is the best horse in training.
Long Running Train, the classy imported filly, did her best under Wesley Henry, and was second ahead of a very determined and long-time leader Miracle Star in third.Perfect Neighbour, who was surprisingly early throughout the race, found nothing in the straight and finished fourth.
Franfield (Shane Ellis) was simply not himself and finished last, but this run should be removed from thought.
Owner Derrick Smith was justly proud of Seeking My Dream‘s performance.
“Excellent, it was a great performance by Seeking My Dream. Allowing weight all around and to have won by five lengths, he has demonstrated that he is surely one of the best horses here at present.
“I hope he remains fit and healthy as he will be pointed towards the Superstakes and the Diamond Mile,” Smith said.
Trainer Wayne DaCosta acknowledged that different tactics that were applied on Saturday paid off.
“We changed tactics today (Saturday). I basically told Omar (Walker) not to rush him too early. He got a good break and was going along nicely, and when Omar asked him to run the last two and a half furlongs, he never looked back, he just powered away,” DaCosta said.
Walker said he was always confident of Seeking My Dream’s chances.
“
Seeking My Dream showed that he has class and talent and has been demonstrating it time after time.
“He worked pretty well coming into the race and with a perfect trip, I was always confident,” Walker said in the winner’s enclosure.
